The so-called “passive” fall-restraint systems on the market today are intended to protect workers from falling during roof construction, equipment installation (solar, skylights, vents, communication), or while performing routine inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair. Typically, these consist of ridgetop anchor points (antennas, chimney box, pipe vents), unsightly cable systems, and even opposite-side ground anchors (pickup truck bumper, tree stump, flagpole, fencepost, etc.) to which long lines are tied and casually draped over rooftops. Although these provide limited protection IF the unsecured person manages to make it from ladder or lift to the anchor, they are completely unprotected from serious injury or even death if they fall before tying in. To ensure maximum safety, it is essential that the exposed individual - whether employed worker or just the homeowner - is protected AT ALL TIMES!
